Can You Dig It?

Last week, Anni and Chris were visiting and Chuck and Lauren stopped by with delicious pizzas (NOT a type of pizza) and we were all looking for something to do. I suggested we play the addictively fun game Dig It.

Dig It is a simple game with lots of tiny little squares each with one letter written on them. These squares are dumped into a pile. Each person gets subject cards for which you must spell out an answer. For example, if your subject is 'A Heavenly Body' you search through the pile of letter tiles to spell 'JED'. Whoever finished their five subject cards first without misspelling anything wins. There is something involving pay cards but that part was dumb so we omitted it.

Back in the day, Anni and I used to play this game all the time. I absolutely loved it and nagged her endlessly to play with me. She'd only play if I set it up and clean it up which I gladly did. About 18 years later she found the game on ebay and got it for me one Christmas. Coolest gift ever. It was the most unexpected and surprising gift ever, and it evoked the same feelings of excitement I used to get at Christmas when I was really little. Of course, it took nearly 2 years to get anyone to play it with me. I am certain our going to Japan did not alter the timing.

We realized just how dated the game was when we started to play and found one of the subject cards to be 'A state in the Union'. Jed began the night tired and a tad cranky and refused to play, but after seeing one round of the utter hilarity Dig It held, he could not resist and we cleared a spot on the floor for him.

As we often do with games, we became bored quickly and decided to make our own subject cards. Most were really good, but Jed decided to involve math and of course I had to get that card.

Long story longer, Dig It is super cool. It likely doesn't exist anywhere anymore but you can make it yourself with paper and a pen. I laughed so hard and had so much fun and if only they were still making Dig It I could do a commercial singing its praises.

PS...It is really sad that I have nothing more interesting to talk about.
PPS...My nephew called me 'Uncle Karen'
