I apologize to any readers I still have left. I have been really busy and when I'm not busy I am really lazy and then my computer crashed.
I recently came across a column on birth order and it interested me. I neglected to get the reference so all I can tell you is that it was on MSN yesterday:
Youngest:
The youngest child tends to be the most creative and can be very charming -- even manipulative. Because they often identify with the underdog, they tend to champion egalitarian causes. (Youngest siblings were the earliest backers of the Protestant Reformation and the Enlightenment.) Successful in journalism, advertising, sales and the arts, famous youngest children include Cameron Diaz, Jim Carrey, Drew Carey, Rosie O'Donnell, Eddie Murphy and Billy Crystal.
The youngest also has to deal with no one caring about all of life's milestones as they've already been done by the older siblings. In addition, the youngest also must also deal with the oldest thinking their life is more important so all plans must be built around them. Of course, this is all based on reasearch...not personal experience.
Oh, and the youngest is always the favorite. This is based on personal experience.
Oldest, youngest, or middle... I'm just grateful to have a family that supports me through the hard times and is right there with me to celebrate the good. (Even if Jed is the favorite.)
Posted by: carrie at May 12, 2006 07:52 AM"The middle child may feel squeezed out of a position of privilege and significance. The child feels inadequate, tries to overcome the feeling by choosing perfectionism in some area of life. The Middle born may feel that no one cares about how he or she feels."
"Sometimes middle children have to try a little harder to "be heard" or get noticed."
"We're the middle children of history.... no purpose or place. We have no Great War, no Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our great depression is our lives."
~From the movie Fight Club
Call a "Whaaaaambulance", I've been overlooked once again.
Posted by: Beckie at May 12, 2006 08:39 AMThere are only two sibblings in Karen's family, I think that's why the middle was overlooked.
I can see why there was confusion though, because everyone knows I am and always will be the favorite.
"The youngest often lives in a false reality, creating situations and circumstances that are often exaggerated in order to repress the truth that he/she is not the favorite."
Posted by: Jed at May 12, 2006 10:44 AMI had my own special solution to the dilemma. I had a Favorite of the Week and it rotated equally!!!!!!!!!
